Menorca

Cuisine

Maó has a place in culinary history as the 18th century birthplace of mayonnaise (mahonesa). The island is also known for its famous cheeses. The queso Mahon is a richly textured, white, semi-fat cheese made from pasteurized cow’s milk with a touch of ewe’s milk added for extra flavour. The cheese is sold at four different stages of maturity: tierno (young), semi-curado (semi-mature), curado (mature) or añejo (very mature). Most of Maó’s restaurants specialize in Spanish, Catalan or Italian dishes. Seafood restaurants offer the Menorcan speciality caldereta de llagosta, which is a fabulously tasty lobster stew. Menorca has many coffee bars and tapas bars.

Nightlife

Even though there are some lively bars along the harbor front in Maó, Menorca’s nightlife is quiet. The bars close at 2am on summer weekends. A few clubs start at midnight. Do you like to spend your holidays on a quiet, peaceful and paradisiacal island? Then come to Menorca and stay in one of our comfortable Menorca hotel and accommodations. You will have the time of your life in Menorca!
