Ibiza Town: Dalt Vila (“Hight Town”)

The historic enclave of Dalt Vila was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 1999. The city’s stonewalls’ main entrance is the Portal de ses Taules, a triple gateway designed to withstand the heaviest artillery barrage. The colossal walls of the Dalt Vila provide great views down over the town. In addition, Dalt Vila hosts a Museu d’Art Contemporani with nice temporary art exhibitions and cultural events. The Museu Arqueològic d’Eivissa i Formentera has a collection of local archeological finds. The majority of the objects are from Phoenician and Carthaginian (Punic) sites, but there are also various Arab and Roman curiosities.

Around Ibiza Town: the beaches

Buses from Ibiza Town leave regularly to Ibiza’s marvelous beaches. The beach Ses Salines has fine white sand that arcs around a bay with crystal-clear waters fringed by pines and dunes. The beach also has a few nice and modern beach bars. Walk from Ses Salines to the beach Es Cavallet along the paths that maze the sand dunes. This beach is similar, but quieter. The southern ends of both beaches are reserved for nude bathing.

The north: Sant Miquel

The inlet at Port de Sant Miquel, 3km north of Sant Miquel, hosts the cave complex Cova de Can Marçà. The cave features some spectacular lighting effects, including a waterfall that cascades over fossil-rich rocks. There’s also an excellent view of the coastline from the outside.
